JUMP WITH JILL
Jump with Jill is a multimedia health program that teaches kids about nutrition through entertainment. Created and performed by registered dietitian and musician, Jill Jayne, Jump with Jill is currently formatted as a touring live show, an audio CD, and a blog.
THE LIVE SHOW
Jump with Jill is live rock 'n roll nutrition concert for elementary-age kids that teaches nutrition through entertainment. The nutrition show is available for schools, conferences and events nationwide. With microphone in hand, Jill gets kids learning about nutrition by moving to her original music. The interactive experience of learning about nutrition not only makes eating breakfast and drinking water cool, but helps increase retention of these important health messages. Since Jump with Jill's inception three years ago, Jill has performed nearly 500 nutrition shows for almost 70,000 kids all over the United States.
The nutrition show covers:
* The definition of energy and exercise * How to do exercises that are fun * The importance of choosing foods that make the body healthy * How to choose healthy foods including label reading and food facts * Body acceptance and empowerment * Recognizing that cartoon characters and celebrities are sometimes used to promote unhealthy foods * How to identify foods high in calcium and why these foods are cool * The importance of water * What unhealthy ingredients are in popular foods that makes them taste so good * Why eating less processed foods is better for your body and for the earth
The nutrition show is both educationally sound and completely rock and roll.
The CD
Get Me Goin’ is the soundtrack to the live, rock ‘n roll nutrition show Jump with Jill. Featuring a wide variety of popular music styles, including rock, rap, jazz, and ‘90s dance, the CD gets kids moving as they learn about nutrition.
RATIONALE
Jump with Jill addresses an urgent need to connect with kids when it comes to overall health, exercise and nutrition. Nationwide in US, 17% of kids are obese (BMI over the 95th percentile) and only one out of three kids meet basic fitness requirements. Body dissatisfaction is the norm, rather than the exception. Kids spend nearly six and a half hours per day consuming media, witnessing over 40,000 commercials per year, most of which encourage them to remain inactive and continue consuming. With all the noise, today’s media-savvy kids have become increasing difficult to reach. But Jill Jayne turns the media machine on its head to produce interactive media about nutrition that gets kids engaged, moving and learning about nutrition.

SONGWRITING WORKSHOPS
To increase the impact of the live nutrition show, consider booking workshops for small groups of students. In the songwriting workshops, students spend time in small groups with Jill to investigate the secrets of their favorite pop songs. For longer workshops, students will also review the music-making process including recording live voices and instruments, mixing, and mastering. In any length of workshop, students will generate their own pop song using what they learn. Schools may choose these topics in advance to enhance current learning objectives or students may generate them in the session. Songs can be performed by the students in front of their student body in conjunction with the Jump wtih Jill performance. The workshop is available at a minimum of 45 minutes or up to 4 hours. Ideal for grades 4 and 5.
